Sports Injuries First Aid Course

The course is ideal for therapists, coaches, Pilates teachers, and Personal Trainers and anyone working in a sports environment with adults and children. Please note that this is a basic first aid course and if you need a regulated course or to be confident dealing with potential fractures, breaks and sprains and spinal injuries, you should book onto our full day course.


The required syllabus includes:

  • Action at an emergency – priorities of treatment
  • Care of the adult or child who is unconscious but breathing – Recovery position
  • Care of the adult who is unconscious and not breathing – CPR (differences between adult, baby & child CPR)
  • Heart Attack
  • Importance of a defibrillator
  • Care of a casualty with a possible spinal injury
  • Heart Attack and angina
  • Treatment of a choking adult and child
  • Treatment of bleeding, grazes, embedded objects, teeth knocked out, nose bleeds, amputated parts, eye injuries
  • Burns including electrical – if applicable
  • Recognition and treatment of shock including allergic reaction
  • Spinal injuries
  • Head injuries – skull fracture, compression and concussion
  • Epilepsy and other seizures
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries – breaks, sprains, strains and dislocations

Who is this course suitable for

The 6 hour basic Sports First Aid course is for therapists, coaches and trainers who want to know what action to take when treating adults or young people who have had an accident, or become ill, when undertaking sports activities. Most insurance companies require Sports Professionals to undertake the full day Emergency First Aid at Work course covering the full First Aid Syllabus plus additions, which we will adapt for your sport.

Certification is dependent on successfully completing practical assessment and passing multiple choice tests. Those delegates who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
